Strategiskt innovationsprogram: Samlar Sverige för hållbar och konkurrenskraftig produktion

Developing Sustainable Resilient circular economy microFactories with LSAM (SuRF-LSAM)

By combining the Phase 1 projects OCEAN-LSAM and SPARSAM, SuRF-LSAM will lay the foundation for tomorrow’s global network of circular economy microfactories.

  • SuRF-LSAM will establish two micro-factories in Sweden and Portugal and develop a model to calculate the actual values of LSAM for circular material production and thereby facilitate demand-driven circular production that can be moved closer to the customer in a micro-factory or a “factory-in-a- box” mobile concept.
  • SuRF-LSAM will also create a computational model to replace real LSAM experiments and conduct materials-level research to optimize the blending process of recycled polymers followed by the necessary multi-physics characterization at different levels, enabling microfabrication efficiency.
  • SuRF-LSAM will establish an initial network between the first two microfactories and encourage interaction and knowledge sharing between them, further facilitating a scalable model, i.e. the replication of the micro-factory concept across sites.
  • SuRF-LSAM will also support partners to identify potential locations where microfactories can be established and provide support to initiate their establishment.
  • SuRF-LSAM will enable businesses to become more flexible, resilient and sustainable and improve the EU’s low recycling rate of plastic waste and reduce the future use of new plastics, while contributing to four UN goals: 9, 11 , 12, 14.
