Produktion2030’s graduate school gives valuable networks

Produktion2030’s Graduate School has expanded my research network in Sweden. It has also given me insights into how PhD students at other institutions approach their research in product development, says Adelia Drego, PhD student at Linköping University.

Adelia’s research area is thermal management design.

— Modern aircraft face various contemporary challenges such as the use of more- electrical technologies and more power-hungry systems. These technologies and systems have very low efficiencies and produce large amounts of waste heat. Therefore, my research focuses on enabling more efficient and effective thermal management design at the aircraft concept stage, she says.

Adelia has taken several courses within the Produktion2030’s Graduate School and she thinks the courses provide an education so vastly different to a Bachelor or Masters level of education:

In Produktion2030 courses, you learn general concepts and theories about the course topic. Then you are provided with the opportunity to apply those concepts and theories within your own specific field of research. And then understand why those concept or theories are applicable or not to your research.

Adelia means that Produktion2030 Graduate School serves as a common institution in Sweden for deep understanding in product development and production. It also provides PhD students with the opportunity to gain techniques to conduct research in these areas. She would definitely recommend Produktion2030’s Graduate School to other PhD students and her advice to PhD students thinking about joining Produktion2030’s Graduate School is to consider the courses on research methodology, research communication, data analysis, and publishing.

I think The Produktion2030’s Graduate School can generate cross-fertilization and collaborations between various Swedish institutions doing research in product realisation and production. If this school did not exist the inter-institutional network would disappear.
