Strategiskt innovationsprogram: Samlar Sverige för hållbar och konkurrenskraftig produktion

HJT – Hybrid Joining Testbed for Smart Production

Hybrid joining – the combination of adhesive bonding and mechanical joining – is much in demand where multiple materials need to be used and connected.

Effective future production requires a holistic perspective and a high degree of flexibility and automation. Joining currently involves more or less separate processes, with separate disciplines for adhesive bonding, assembly and mechanical joining or welding. The application submitted to Produktion2030 by the Hybrid Joining Testbed for Smart Production therefore focuses on the smart factory’s capacity to create flexible production with simulations and programming in a digital twin that combines the latest technology for adhesive application, assembly and mechanical joining, rheology-based simulation and automated collision-free path planning.

There are currently very limited opportunities to run tests covering several of these disciplines and the whole process chain in a controlled manner. A Hybrid Joining Cell (HJC) with these capabilities, which also includes the effects of pretreatment and painting and the thermal conditions in the paint curing oven that affect curing in hybrid joints and final product geometry, will be a vital platform for evaluating new material combinations and new process strategies that can increase the competitiveness of Swedish industry.
