OVERVIEW

This module aims describe the brief history regarding the automation system from Industry 1.0 to Industry 4.0, and the role of robots. The module also to introduce the conventional robot programming and novel technologies like human-robot collaboration. Hands-on practice is included based on the online robot simulation tools, e.g. mobile robots, walking humanoid, autonomous cars.  Finally, the module will introduce how robot applications can be connected to the latest ICT technologies from the Industry 4.0’s perspective, e.g. Cloud, IoT, etc. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Describe the features of different generation of Automation systems, from Industry 1.0 to 4.0
  • Perform basic robot programming via the online platform in python language.
  • Describe the important enabling technologies from the industry 4.0’s perspective.
  • Make suggestions and improvements in the current working environments, based on the robotic and other industry 4.0 technologies.

MODULE STRUCTURE

The learning module is a mixture of self-study with recorded lectures and recommended reading as a support, webinars for joint discussions with other module participants, and hands-on exercises.

CONTENT

This module will cover the themes:

  • Automation and industry 1.0
  • Automation in Industry 2.0 and first robot in the world
  • Automation in Industry 3.0
  • Robot Programming
  • Automation in Industry 4.0

TIME COMMITMENT

To complete this module, the participant is expected to schedule approximately 4 hours per week over 5 weeks (20 hours in total).
